Modern Thyroid Clinic was born simply out of a deep need. I was repeatedly seeing patients who had spent hours & hours researching their unresolved or undiagnosed hypothyroid symptoms. Each week patients would say, “Do you know how long it took me to find you?” I’m not ok with that. I’ve been the person desperately searching for relief of my own fatigue and brain fog - living in my pajamas. I remember getting on a three-month wait list in hopes the doctor could help me, but not even being sure. Years later, I know now that there are millions of people suffering just like I was. I want Modern Thyroid Clinic to be a place for women, men, mothers, grandmothers and children who are unnecessarily suffering. There’s hope, believe me. We want to take away the barriers of treatment. We want to become a place that people can easily find for help. But we also want them to be able to get in sooner, rather than later, without having to wait. For this reason, we are training other like-minded clinicians in our methodology of treatment. We are replicating what we do to expand access for as many people possible because I know first hand what it's like to get your life back. It’s really that simple; we are dedicated to giving people with hypothyroidism their lives back. Come see us and let us help you get yours back.

We specialize in treatment for thyroid and certain endocrine disorders using progressive methodologies to give patients their lives back. We believe that a patient’s symptoms, not just lab results, should guide treatment.
Conditions We DO Treat: Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto’s Disease, Graves Disease, fatigue, symptoms associated to menopause, menstrual disorders, hormonal imbalances, hormone replacement, treatment after thyroidectomy.
Conditions We DO NOT Treat: primary care concerns, Lupus, MS, molds or heavy metal toxicity, parathyroid, psychiatric disorders (including depression and anxiety that is unrelated to thyroid condition), SIBO or gut-only conditions, or pain management.
Though we don’t conform to one-size-fits-all thyroid management, we do find that these types of medications, or other medications that include T3 in them, often work best for patients. We do a full analysis of how each person’s thyroid is functioning and base treatment on that, but in short, we are a fan of natural desiccated thyroid.Check out Why Synthroid Doesn’t Work on our You Tube channel.
We do an in-depth thyroid panel to fully understand your thyroid function, allowing us to fix and perfect even the most minor or complex of issues. Our normal thyroid panel includes: TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, Thyroid-peroxidase Antibodies, & Thyroglobulin Antibodies.
100% yes! This is the area where functional medicine truly thrives. All of our clinicians are trained to search for and attempt to address the “root cause” of these conditions, attempting lower antibodies and ideally create a state of remission.
As far as Grave’s disease goes, McCall McPherson has a unique approach of managing Grave’s that she is having success with, ideally allowing them to live a high quality of life without having to experience the symptoms of hyper or hypo – thyroid like so many are stuck with.
Yes, we use Naltrexone to treat the appropriate patients.
All day, every day! We believe if someone has prolonged thyroid dysfunction that hasn’t been properly treated, they end up with some level of adrenal fatigue. This has to be addressed to give people their life back.
Yes, we offer hormone replacement for both men and women and also help premenopausal and postmenopausal women balance their hormones.
Yes, we order food allergy testing whenever necessary or requested, especially for Hashimoto + Graves patients. Our food allergy testing is done through a third-party lab, Alletess Laboratory, and they test your sensitivity to almost 200 foods. We have test kits in our office, or one can be shipped to your address. After you get your blood drawn and return the test kit to the lab, we receive the results in about 2 weeks. We recommend you see our health coach, Hayley Adams, for a consultation to review the results.
Thanks to recent changes to the Texas medical laws regarding telemedicine, we are now excited to offer telephone and virtual appointments to our patients. If you are a Texas resident, you can be seen virtually or via telephone appointment 100% of the time with no need to come into the office. If you live outside of Texas, please give our office a call to discuss options. We would love to help walk you through this process.
Currently, we serve Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah via phone / telemedicine. Please check back with us, as we continue to add more states.
When you set up your first appointment with us we will ask for credit card information as a “deposit” to hold your appointment. We do not charge your card until you have actually had an appointment with your provider. We keep that credit card information on file and will charge it for any subsequent phone or virtual appointments that you may have. The credit card information is kept securely by our payment systems.
Absolutely! We accept any type of debit or credit card, cash or check as payment.
We are a cash-based practice and do not accept insurance. We pride ourselves on spending a great deal of time with patients to understand the state of their health by gathering information, analyzing symptoms, educating them, and giving each one the time and attention they fully deserve that is critical to their medical care. Because of this, it is impossible to follow the insurance model of medicine, which generally allots only 15 minutes per patient. We can, however, provide a Superbill upon request, for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network coverage.
We do our absolute best to order labs that are hopefully covered by your insurance in order to limit your out-of-pocket expenses whenever possible. If you have HMO insurance, we try to work directly with your primary care doctor to get your labs covered or we can refer you to a specific lab that offers discount cash prices.
Your first appointment with a clinician is an hour long either by Zoom or at our office located in the Alive + Well building. Your provider will find you in the waiting area and escort you back to the office where you’ll have an in-depth but relaxed conversation about the current state of your health and what brings you to Modern Thyroid Clinic. At the end of your visit your provider will do a very short physical exam where they will listen to your heart and feel your neck and thyroid area. No changing clothes, no weighing, no nurses, and no exam table; just a couch, a desk, a clinician and you! After your appointment, an appointment plan, or instructions, with all of the information that was discussed during your appointment, including prescriptions and future lab orders can be found in your patient portal later that same day.
Requests from pharmacies can be faxed to (512) 852-6746
We understand that at times it may be necessary to communicate with our office via email or phone call regarding certain aspects of your medical care or other administrative needs, such as scheduling or cancelling appointments or asking a MINOR medical question and that’s OK; however, providing medical advice or treatment via email is not an ideal or an effective way for our providers to practice medicine. If you have more than 1-2 BASIC questions or if you have an issue that requires discussion, questions regarding a new health issue, what to do next or a change in protocol, or questions that require access to your chart or clinical decision making by your provider then you will be asked to schedule a brief follow-up appointment so that the proper attention can be given to your issue.
Please note that our clinicians and administrative staff receive an overwhelming number of email messages and phone calls on a daily basis, so we have a 48-BUSINESS HOUR return message policy. We make every attempt to return your messages in a timely manner, but it may take up to 48 business hours to get back to you.
It is VERY IMPORTANT to note that Modern Thyroid Clinic is NOT an acute-care or emergent-care facility and does not take after-hours calls. We highly recommend that you keep a primary care doctor or other physician on your health care team to manage acute care situations. We are not equipped to manage life-threatening emergencies. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, you should call 9-1-1 or report to the nearest emergency room.
Our clinic is pleased to serve thyroid patients starting from the age of 10 and up. However, patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for all appointments. This policy ensures the safety and well-being of our younger patients while providing comprehensive care.
