If you have hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s, you have probably asked yourself: What supplements should I actually be taking?
The supplement world can quickly become overwhelming. One product promises energy. Another promises thyroid support. Another targets hair loss, metabolism, stress, or healthy aging.
But more supplements do not necessarily mean better results.
In this episode of Modern Thyroid & Wellness, McCall McPherson is joined by her longtime friend and colleague Melissa “Mel” Afflerbach, Clinical Director of Weight Loss & Supplement Programs, for a behind-the-scenes conversation about MDRN Wellness and the supplements they use to support common concerns they see in people with thyroid and hormone dysfunction.
Rather than simply giving listeners another long list of supplements, McCall and Mel explain why particular forms of support may be considered, what each product is designed to address, and why understanding the root cause of a symptom still matters.
Why Thyroid Treatment May Not Be the Entire Energy Equation
One of the biggest complaints McCall and Mel hear from people with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s is fatigue.
McCall explains that energy production involves more than thyroid function alone. In the episode, she discusses the relationship between thyroid function, stress physiology, adrenal function, and mitochondrial energy production.
That is why the conversation begins with two products they frequently discuss for energy support.
Adrena-Sol: Supporting the Adrenal System
McCall discusses Adrena-Sol in the context of people experiencing fatigue, brain fog, reduced motivation, diminished stress resilience, and other symptoms that may overlap with hypothyroidism.
The larger takeaway is important: if fatigue remains after thyroid treatment, it may be worth working with an appropriate clinician to investigate what else could be contributing rather than assuming every symptom originates solely from the thyroid.
Mito-Sol and Cellular Energy
The second piece of the energy conversation is mitochondrial health.
Mitochondria help convert nutrients into ATP, the cellular energy used throughout the body. McCall explains that Mito-Sol is intended to support this energy-production process rather than act like caffeine or another stimulant.
McCall and Mel also discuss pairing Adrena-Sol and Mito-Sol as part of their approach to energy support.
Why Hair Loss Can Be So Difficult With Thyroid Dysfunction
Hair loss is another major focus of this episode.
McCall shares her own experience of significant hair loss in early 2026 and discusses how emotionally difficult rapid shedding can be.
But Mel makes an important distinction: supplementing for hair growth shouldn't replace figuring out why the hair is falling out.
For someone with thyroid dysfunction, that may mean evaluating thyroid markers, ferritin, nutrition, metabolic changes, or other possible contributors with a clinician.
Beauty Glow Collagen
Beauty Glow Collagen is discussed as one component of their beauty-focused protocol, providing collagen and other ingredients intended to support the structural needs of hair, skin, and nails.
Complete Beauty
While Beauty Glow focuses on structural support, Complete Beauty is discussed from the micronutrient side—providing nutritional support for healthy hair, skin, and nails.
Astaxanthin
McCall also discusses astaxanthin, an antioxidant she personally incorporates into her routine, particularly in the context of skin and broader antioxidant support.
ThyroShield™: Selenium + Myo-Inositol for Thyroid Support
The conversation then turns specifically to thyroid supplementation.
ThyroShield™ combines selenium and myo-inositol, two ingredients McCall discusses in relation to thyroid signaling and Hashimoto’s.
McCall also emphasizes the value of measurable data. Rather than simply taking supplements indefinitely without knowing whether they are helping, she discusses testing thyroid antibodies and following changes over time with appropriate clinical guidance.
A New Kind of Thyroid Supplement Is Coming
McCall and Mel also give listeners a preview of something new.
The clinical team is developing an additional thyroid-focused formulation based on needs they say they have struggled to address with existing products.
They don't reveal the full formulation yet, but explain that development is already well underway.
The Meaning Behind “Sol”
This supplement line also carries a deeply personal meaning for McCall.
Her brother Solomon, or “Sol,” had been working on the project for months before unexpectedly passing away. McCall explains that the team looked for ways to honor him as they brought the project to life—including the “Sol” thread running through product names such as Adrena-Sol and Mito-Sol.
What began as a supplement project has therefore become something much more personal: part of Solomon's legacy.
A More Thoughtful Approach to Thyroid Supplements
One of the strongest messages from this episode is that supplementation should be intentional.
Hair loss doesn't automatically mean you need a hair supplement. Fatigue isn't automatically caused by your thyroid. And taking more products isn't necessarily the answer.
Instead, McCall and Mel encourage listeners to understand why symptoms are happening, evaluate the appropriate health markers with their clinicians, and use supplements strategically as one component of a broader plan.
